Volvo S/V 90 Polestar with 600hp?? 7796

Motortrend is reporting today that Volvo’s R&D chief, Peter Mertens, has confirmed a Polestar edition of the new S90 and V90. More excitingly, though, the site is suggesting that they could produce up to 600hp.

Mertens is reported as saying that Volvo’s 2.0L four cylinder engine can already produce nearly 450 hp, thanks to its two electrically augmented turbo chargers. The plug-in hybrid version of the S and V90 already produces 87 hp, and, in this scenario, would be replaced by an even more powerful unit.

With such large power outputs, the Polestars would be competing with BMW’s M division and Audi’s RS line.
