Even if you
weren't paying attention, the Volvo P1800 Cyan that burst onto the scene back in 2020 definitely grabbed your
attention. A restomod of epic proportions based on a chassis originally put into
production between 1961-72, but modernized with motorsport-derived touches to
transform it into a one-of-a-kind driver's joy, it was tough to miss.
It'll Cost Ya
At the time
of its unveiling, Cyan Racing estimated a maximum of 10 examples per year could
be produced and the entirely custom affair would start at around $500,000. Just
a few months ago, we revisited the P1800 Cyan and informed you that the price had been bumped to $700,000 and
that Americans with some spare change burning a hole in their pocket were given
the green light to take part in the fun.

Someone took
Cyan Racing up on their offer and the very first U.S.-bound model will make its
debut and meet its new owner for the first time at Monterey Car Week's The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering on August 19. Just like the prototype, this example relies on
carbon fiber body panels bonded to the P1800's steel body shell. It
incorporates a modern powerplant, suspension, braking, and electronics to give
reliability and far superior performance as compared to its original output.
Less Peak, More Grunt
If you
recall, these vehicles are built-to-order at Cyan Racing's HQ in Gothenburg and
custom tailored to the buyer's wants and needs. In this case, the idea is more
of a grand tourer than weekend racecar. As such, this U.S. version differs from
that of the prototype, with less horsepower (350) but more low-end torque from
the same turbocharged 2-liter I-4. Additionally, the suspension was toned down
for a more comfortable ride, the steering lightened for ease of drivability,
and the rear differential modified to suit a more relaxed experience from
behind the wheel.

This version
also sheds the Smurf Blue paintwork in lieu of a lavish red treatment that
features two slightly different shades offset by 18-inch, centerlock forged
wheels in a matte textured bronze finish. Just behind the spokes you'll find AP
Racing brakes in a similar bronze finish. The red on bronze combination ties
nicely into the tan interior comprised of leather and wool and highlighted by
hits of the exterior's red along the dash and naked A-pillars.

Classic Character With Modern Appeal
The push and
pull knobs and billet levers, along with the classic gauge style offer
nostalgia backed by modern technology so that you get your '60s-era cake and
can eat it, too. Cyan Racing's ability to modernize without eliminating the
P1800's original character is remarkable, and their first U.S. customer will no
doubt be blown away when they meet their one-of-a-kind restomod next week.
