Pretty,
isn’t it? Re-engineering/reimagining an old car with new parts and technology
provides a refuge for anyone who thinks modern high-performance cars are a bit
joyless. California-based Singer started something magical with its reworking
of the Porsche 911 a decade ago, but top Swedish squad Cyan Racing has gone
even further with its take on Volvo’s elfin P1800 coupé. Only the roof pillars,
handbrake and wipers survive from the donor car, whose new chassis is enveloped
in carbon-fibre body panels. It feels spectacularly well made and engineered.
It also weighs just 990kg, so the 414bhp produced by Volvo’s 2.0-litre turbo is
more than enough to provide truly vivid performance. That lack of mass is
detectable in every aspect; less is most definitely more, even at six
figures. £380,000. cyanracing.com
